Well, I will not say I am too surprised since what you describe, Hreod, is a more or less general trend with Star Trek novels. There are a few good ones, but overwhelmingly more really bad ones, IMHO. I used to write reviews of Star Trek novels for our fanclub but I stopped doing that when I realized how bad some of these really were.

I find it a good thing that these are not considered "canon".

Nope, nothing to do with the episode.

I've read this book too, or at least most of it.  I found the overwhelming Trip emphasis to be a major fault, and the reason I only skimmed through the sequel.  I'm fine with a story featuring one main character, but not to the exclusion of all the others.  To me that's poor writing, in a novel at any rate.

I only have one Star Trek Novel, which for me, is pretty surprising.  I do a lot of reading but they are more work related books and journals.  Anyway, the book I have is called 'A Time to Hate' which is more TNG than Enterprise.  From whats been said, I think I will be avoiding any further novels based on Trek.  The cancellation of Enterprise already left things on a bad note - don't want to rub salt in the wound by reading a crappy book.  The last novel I read was 'The Wishing Tree' by James Buxton which I picked up at a car boot!!!  It was really good.

I have not managed to read or even find the sequel, but i got the impression that it focuses more on the rest of the Enterprise crew.

There are  a few good ones, though. I like Diane Duane's "Rihannsu" series, not exactly ST canon but quite interesting. I love Andy Robinson's "A Stitch in Time", Garak's story, written by the actor who played him (and very well written as well). I shun everything Christie Golden and I have totally given up on episode novelizations. Watch the ep or read the script, that's much better!

Sadly, I don't always have the luxury of time to read 'lesiure' books but I might make the effort!  I used to do a great deal of reading novels and you've inspired me.

Is there one particular book that anyone recommends I read? (Perferably Enterprise or ST related).

Having said that, if I read this book where 'Trip Lives' then it might be the 'undo' button for TATV and make me feel better about the closure of Enterprise.  Well anything is possible.
