I wanted to see Malcolm being invited for meals with the Captain instead of it always being Trip and T'Pol. He was in charge of Security for goodness sake! So they should have had Malcolm discussing security matters with Archer over a meal sometimes.

I know.  It was something that I did not understand.  I know that Malcolm felt uneasy about having to dine with Archer at one point but this is different.  As it is not a social thing but it business at the end of day.  When Archer do have a meal with Trip and T'Pol they normally do discuss matters of the ship.  And Malcolm is a  Senior Officer.

isn't the captain's table taken from actual navy practice? It was mostly trip and t'pol since they were more or less both the first officer. Trip was supposed to be had it not been for T'Pol coming on board as it is. I always figured it was those three get private dining and they invite others as they wish.

I think Malcolm probably didn't want to eat in there most of the time anyway.

But it is not just for First Officers.  The Security of the is vital and for that you need the one that is in charge of it.  I could understand if it was just a social thing.

Even Travis got to sit at the Captain's table and he was a lowly Ensign, so Malcolm should definitely have been invited to, maybe just for a briefing with the Captain every so often.......even though poor Malcolm would've been nervous at the thought!

I had missed this one but  do know that Malcolm did get to have a meal with Archer but he felt uncomfortable about eating with his C/O.  So, if the meal was a scocial one then he would not be at ease.  Different if it is business.

Never mind he can come and dine with me at any time. Every time.    Can not have dining alone.

after minefield though, you don't know that malcolm didn't go to dinners... ooh, double negative, unravel that one

things happen off camera. for all you know once he gave in and went to breakfast that day, (which he assumed was business but was in fact supposed to be SOCIAL, hence the fact that dinner was always social though they talked about work occasionally) he may have been in there once a week. it's never mentioned again on screen to say he DIDN'T go to dinners, so why assume that he didn't?

Because it's never shown on camera or even mentioned about Malcolm dining with the Captain after Minefield......that's why we assume he never did! Even when Archer entertained alien guests, Malcolm never featured......it would have been nice to see Malcolm in those scenes even if Dominic only had a line or a few words to say.

It would have been only proper to have yor Chief of Security there when you are enertaining Alien guest.  Even if he is uncomfortable about it.  I think that he should over come that and just expect that it is just part of the job.

He did come with archer to see the orion girls. That was far more interesting than any captain's mess.
