| I was watching 'Demons', and would like to ask all what they thought of it.

| Hi there,
planed to answer your question earlier, but University had other plans. I was so lucky to get to watch the episode already. Here in Germany we are at the beginning of season 4, but a friend send me the tape. Demons is kind of a nice episode with yet another up-to-date topic. This is what I like about Star Trek the most. Never afraid of approching sensitive topics and handle them in a very grown up way. The problem of xenophobia, especially right now with the problems between cultures and religions, can't be solved in an easy way. I think the episode handled it quite well and showed what fear can do to people. What kind of pervers things people can come up with. To create and use something as innocent and vulnerable as a baby, only to let it die for ones cruel and sick believe that only a pure race can survive, might be just the next step in the conflic of cultures. I think Gene Roddenberry was absolutly right when he said: "If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear."

| I know that they baby dies, but I think that they should have had the baby live and see how T'Pol and 'Trip' cope with being parents. Now that would have been a good story to watch.

| Believe me, I would have prefered that too. I think it would have been a nice storyline to see Trip and T'Pol deal with the baby and their new responsibilities as parents. And I would have loved to see Trip holding the little one. Damn arm!

| I have not seen the second one yet but I kind of figuered that they would have had the chance to do that. Could you just image how they would have dealt with the baby when or if they had a slightly different way of doing it.

IngaOnly problem with that is that it would have taken Trip and T'Pol off the ship. We were a long way away from having families on starships and I don't believe that there would be any particular reason for Starfleet to let the three of them go. Never mind that they are both senior officers, and therefore on call 24/7. There's simply no way they could deal with a newborn and pull that sort of duty as well. I think you'll have to stick to fan fiction for that kind of story. wollem |

| Remeber in 'Cogenitor', 'Trip' did make a remark about it. Besides, how about on TNG they had families aboard and they did manage to do their duties and have a family life as well.
