People criticised Rick Berman & Brannon Braga and said that their writing led to the cancellation of Enterprise. People have also said that Manny Coto should have been the main script writer.

If MC had been brought in earlier, would Enterprise have gone to a 5th series or more?

B & B wote the brilliant Shuttlepod One, but MC wrote the great episode Similitude. So should they have written together more?

What do you think?

My opinion -- B&B were worn out and had very few original ideas left. If Manny Coto had been the head writer since season one or two, it definitely would have gone on longer because people that tuned in only once would have seen such a difference in the quality of writing and ideas than what we saw, that they would have stayed with the show.

I agree with this comment. When you're writing about the same thing for a long time, you'll eventually run short on new ideas even though you can get a great one every now and then. Then you should bring in a fresh thinker.

When you look back over the last two decades of trek, things have started to repeat themselves a little.  Its like a lot of soaps (which I don't watch because they are a bit crappy most of them) the same storylines are iterated with different characters in them.

The 'Xindi arc', albeit regarded as a new direction in trek, in my opinion wasn't.  There has almost always been an arc in trek.  In every series it has always been about exploration and new civilisations (such as Scunthorpe) which is a continual arc.  DS9's was to explore the gamma quadrant and basically aid an ailing Bajor after a Cardassian occupation (in addition there was the threat of the Dominion being another arc). Voyager's was to explore the delta quadrant and to strive to get home.

In my opinion, it was only TOS and TNG that lacked an arc.  The Xindi in Enterprise was nothing new and I don't think Manny made it anything new.  The only thing I would say that was new in season 3 was the spectacular visual effects which won awards.  It was still good though but it wasn't anything that different.

In the 80's UK music charts, there were 3 pop song produces called Stock Aitken and Waterman who wrote, produced and distributed records for an inordinate number of vocal artists.  (I hated their work personally but however).  It got to the point that they were producing so many records that all the tracks regardless of artist sounded a bit samey.  Despite having number 1 hits for quite some time, they suddenly went rock bottom for that reason.  A parallel with what we are seeing today with Star Trek.
