The problem I am having is when I try to reply to posts in IE7 I get the following error message:

"The board administrator has requested that you must provide some message content within your post. You cannot post only HTML, Images, EmotIcons or IFCode."

Mind you, this is a post consisting of actual words!

I then poked around and found the old Netscape 8.1 browser on my computer and figured I'd try on that and obviously (since I am posting this now) it works there. I don't recall having a problem with IE7 on here before. I mean aside from the logging in and the inability to upload an avatar - as I understand that is a problem for everyone - the other times I posted were while using IE7.

My roommate and I formally ditched IE (all versions) in favor of Firefox, but he continues to experience the same difficulties with the site on that browser. I use my Mac for online activities and have frequently encountered difficulties with Safari, but I'm curious as to whether or not my uploading inability lies in a browser incapability. Hmmm. I do not have any form of Netscape or Opera to test on, but my roommate does. Problem is - he just bought the Sims 3, so I doubt I will see his face for the next week or so. ;-)

I thought I had installed Firefox on here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it, so must be on a different computer. Come to think of it, I think I was using IE6 on a different computer when I posted before and kept having problems with IE7 and that is why I don't post here too often!

Ah, if I had the money for a Mac. Wouldn't solve any of the problems here, but I'd feel cooler!

If you can live with a general incompatibility problem, a Mac is worth it solely based on the quality of the software. I do a lot of playing around with creative projects and was really pleased at the user friendly nature of programs like Garageband. I am much too lazy to read the 900 page manuals you require to operate programs like Cubase and am very pleased with the simple efficiency of Mac video tutorials.

And they are cute. And cool. Mine is white and has a glowing apple on the backside.

But grrrrrr, these technical incompatibilities! Just tried to upload an avatar again. Doomed to failure.

Yeah, a Mac would be lovely, but being one of the many newly unemployed, doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. 10 or so years ago I almost bought an iMac just because I thought it was so adorable. I can appreciate a fashionable computer. The glowing apple on yours sounds cool.

So the avatar problem, I'm pretty sure is an issue for everyone. I forget how I eventually ended up with the green thing I've got now. For the longest time I couldn't even get one of those to work.

I'm a student, but I just had a working streak behind me which enabled me to buy the Mac. To that, I must add, I live in VERY convenient circumstances. My boyfriend (also a student) and I live in the attic of his parent's place and pay only the minimum in expenses. There isn't a day that goes by that I am not grateful for my situation, considering the fact that I arrived here in this country without anything at all.
The unemployment problem is becoming quite severe here too and those that still have jobs are often overworked trying to compensate for the people who were laid off or fired. I think the rate of psychologically ill people here in Germany has sort of skyrocketed the last decade or so.
I sincerely hope that things work out for you nonetheless, even if my words must sound somewhat empty.

Your avatar is one of those forum standards? Did anyone you know ever have success with getting a personal avatar up? Are the mods aware of this problem?

Thanks. I haven't really talked to anyone else here, but when I first joined and couldn't get one to upload, I found posts of other people having problems, so I'm sure the mods are aware of it. Though posting, as far as functionality goes, is about the only thing that really works here - or at least for me anyway. PM and e-mail didn't work for me in the past either.

Are you also a member of Trek United? (It doesn't seem to be up right this second , but there is a great deal more functionality and a lot more people to get to know.) If you're not, you should check it out - when it's up again. You can generally find me posting in the "How Cute is Connor Trinneer/Trip Tucker" thread , under the same name. There's a few more places too.

Ok, scratch what I just said about not everything working. I just PM'd you (Exclusionzone - that is!) and it appeared to work. If not, then scratch what I said about scratching what I just said!
