| (i admit to taking this from the linda park forums, this is originally cassus idea not mine)
I grew up watching TOS when i was a kid (yes, we're a bit outdated here in ireland) and during my teenage years i watched TNG. Though to be honest I didn't really become much of a ST fan until Enterprise, as a female fan the one thing that always struck me about all the ST series(s?) was that the creator(s), writers, producers etc always pushed forward with the female characters, they didn't just make them as a character who was a pretty face, but they made them with depth and they actually knew what they were doing. They showed over the many years of ST that a woman could achieve anything she wanted to.
favorite character: well considering this is the DK forum I'd say it'd be obvious who mine was. I liked Reed because he reminded me a lot (in some cases to much) of myself. Not many knew much about him and he didn't talk a lot about himself. He also didn't make friends easily, but the ones he did were very important to him.

| To me, honestly, Star Trek is fun. I first started watching with TNG, but only saw the occasional episode of that, because I was at university, my tv was a 12" black and white, and every channel was, in reality, too fuzzy to watch. So my first real ST series was Enterprise, and even that, I started a season late! But once I started watching, I did not stop. The show wasn't perfect, but it was *mine*. And I do love Malcolm Reed. There are simply so many unexplored possibilities for that character.
I wish I had your appreciation for the female characters in ST that you do, but perhaps that's because my main area of knowledge is Enterprise, and the female characters on that show were not very well used. I know, based on what I've seen of TNG, that the female characters on that show were much more well-rounded, more fully realised individuals than those seen on Enterprise. I haven't really seen much of Voyager or DS9, so I can't speak to those shows. And TOS was made in the 1960's, and may have been good for its day, but...
