| I just saw the last show of season 4. And I feel a bit confused and sad. I simply don't understand why Trip had to die. Why did he sacrifice himself? Was it really necessary - was there no other way? I just wonder. He could have been with the others, watching Captain Archer speak at the convention. Was Trip's death a way to close the show? Saying - no more, no season 5? There was so much more. Trip and T'Pol could have decided to team up after all. Secretly I wished for them to do so since their first romantic approach. Knowing they were so different it would be difficult to make it happen - but they also learned a great deal from each other. I still believe they were in love. Funny, at first I didn't like Trip all that much. Thought he was just a jack *** from Florida with a funny accent - but after the first 2 seasons I found my self liking him. You know, blue eyes and always funny. Actually he reminds me of some one I know in real life. And then, I hated TATV mainly because I felt they finished it off so quickly. Trying to connect it with "The Next Generation" and all the others - but it felt too fast for me. There was nearly any time to say goodbye. No one cried when Trip died. Did they mourn? There was only the one shot, where T'Pol packs his stuff to send Trip's parents and Archer joins her. And perhaps I'm just too sentimental... but when the characters had finally grown on me, it was all over ... So, any theories on why Trip had to die - and not one of the others? |

| Hi SwanMay and welcome to the board Brannon Braga said that they had Trip dying as a way to show what sacrifices were made in the forming of The Federation. They picked Trip because he was best friends with Archer so his death would have had the greatest impact. I feel the same as you about his death appearing trivial because it didn't show the crew grieving for him. But they had to try and round the show off in 45 minutes so I suppose there wasn't time to show everything. BB also said that they wouldn't have killed Trip off if the series hadn't been cancelled so blame the tv execs for cancelling the show! What did you think of Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis being in Enterprise's last episode? A lot of fans hated them being there! |

| | It certainly had an impact, but was it the right one? I thought it was distasteful because Ent fans (& cast) had to nurse the injury of Ent's cancellation and it was only by rubbing salt into the wound that they killed off a main character as well. 'I still don't get it' makes me laugh because I don't think many people do 'get it' - and I'm most certainly one of them.

| | Well, what did I think of Riker and Troi showing up in the last episode of Enterprise? First I thought it was a bright idea and a good way to interlink the past with the future. Until I realized that the two actors had grown older and fatter (to say the least). Perhaps it would have been ok, if 'Riker' had lost 20 pounds I saw the TNG shows - and I loved them too. Kirk is pure Cult - and Pickard matches that quite convincing I think.
But as TATV progressed I had a feeling, this is all wrong. They are moving too fast. I didn't like the idea at all. The Grand Finale of Archer's Enterprise - just being a statement in history. Something only looked at at the holodeck. In my opinion they missed all the important parts. Since I'm a more kinesthetic person, I need more time to adjust to changes. I definitely needed more time to accept it was all to be over soon. 1½ hours or so. Looking at my DVD box, something tells me they cut the season down by at least 3-4 episodes. TATV was perhaps meant to be - but ended up being a rough and fast ending for Enterprise and Trip. Now that I know, Trip only died because no one wanted to buy the show - I feel a little at ease, but still don't like to accept the fact. As a fan - I would have loved to see the missing shows and slowly accept the fact - that the people I have come to 'love' wouldn't be on my TV-sceen anymore (if I ever chose not to put my dvds back in the player ) And Archer's speach - why was that cut out? To me it seemed important - it was the reason everything happened. He as the reason the Feuderation was founded. All the sacrifises, the pain, the tears and the blood. Everything going on for 4 years - all the achievements - everything the crew had worked so hard to make happen. And they left it out! Perhaps, it would have mended my broken heart to listen to Archer's speach. Would have been a nicer way to close the show - telling the fans - "We reached our goal and here's what it looks like!" It was their achievement - every crewmember of the Enterprise - and I think we had the right to be a part of that. And I feel, it would have been respectful in regards to Trip's death. Knowing they made it - could have made me understand and accept his passing. What I liked about the TATV was the ending, where you see all the Enterprises - you hear the voices of Captain Kirk, Picard and finally Archer - gave me goose pumps But nearly everything before that - was crap! I want Trip back! (kindly make sure he lands in my in-box - soooooon) |

| | Yeah SwanMay the ending of Enterprise almost felt like a non event. Like you said it would have been better to have the ending spread over 2 episodes so we felt as though Enterprise got a good send off and that the Enterprise crew were treated in a more heroic way. I think it was terrible the way that the Enterprise actors and crew got treated by Paramount. Everyone was told about the cancellation part way through filming of the In A Mirror Darkly episodes. It shows how professional everyone was by the quality of the work turned out after the cancellation. I think if the studio had said at the end of the 3rd season that there would only be one more season people would have come to terms with the cancellation better. |

| I agree with both of you - it was a terrible let down for fans. Sounds harsh, I know, but it was.

| TATV was garbage. I can't get going on this topic because it still makes me soooo angry (picture smoke coming out the ears angry). The Enterprise cast is to be commended for the job that they did with such a piece of sh*t script. There were some lovely scenes, mostly with Connor. The one with Dominic still makes me teary.
Every bit of the holodeck, Troi and Riker stuff was crap. And the amount of time they got!!!!! I sincerely want to beat someone to a pulp for giving so much time to those traitors. I don't accept it as part of the lore. It's a holodeck malfunction at best. I've lost all respect for Frakes and Sirtis.
Terra Prime was the Enterprise finale and Archer's speech at the end of that episode was as moving as anything he could have said at the end of TATV. Connor even agreed - that TP was their finale - at a convention when a young girl said it at a panel discussion.
Okay, I've got to get off this topic.
