First off: I suck. I should post more often. Mea Culpa.

That's sort of a ritualized opening, ya know?

The missus, first, cuz I always like to start by talking about her. Bonita Friedericy, for those of you who don't know, is my wife, the light of my life, and she is doing very well, recurring on Chuck (she plays General Dianne "Chuckles" Beckman), doing a little theatre here and there, and generally continuing to entrance me. We're hoping that Chuck gets renewed for another season, and in the meantime (as this season draws to a close) she is working with me on a project called UMBRELLA MAN. U.M. is a terrific feature about a couple who lose their only child to a hit and run driver and who, as they begin to pull apart from one another in the bitter aftermath, learn to channel their grief in eccentric ways. We were approached to play the leads a few months back and the filmmakers are currently attempting, with our assistance, to raise the rest of the money needed to start production in the fall.

As for me, I have been continuing to guest on different shows - still recurring on True Blood, recently completed Criminal Minds. Wrapped a feature called 2012 (alternate title: Farewell, Atlantis) in which I play a (semi) pompous British scientist advising Oliver Platt, among others, about the DESTRUCTION OF THE WORLD. This was a big budget (175$ million) disaster pic - Roland Emmerich directing - that shot in Vancouver for approximately 4 plus months and took up the bulk of my time in the 2nd half of '08. Prior to that I spent a few months shooting six episodes of a tv show called 26 Miles which has yet to see the light of day. There's a chance it might emerge soon, as a miniseries, on a cable station, but I'm not really allowed to speculate . . . I play a cranky divorce attorney, it stars John Schneider, and the Missus is in it as well, playing a Guatemalan nun. I kid you not.

I also begin rehearsals on March 3 for a play at the Pasadena Playhouse called Mauritius, by a lovely writer named Theresa Rebeck. Opens sometime in April. Haven't done a play in 4 or 5 years, so that's exciting.

That's about all the news from the work front. Things are a little slow in Hollywood, result of a nasty combo of recessionary climate putting a crimp on investor $$$ and grey clouds on the labor front (SAG still doesn't have a contract, don't get me started). Having said that, Bonnie and I are managing to trundle on regardless . . . Cats still fat and sassy, charitable efforts still continuing. Although we stepped down from the board of the Aids Service Center (it had been 5 years for me, and I needed to move onto other things, although the ASC continue to have my full support) Bonnie and I are trying to give back to the community by helping to organize monthly 'hands on' service opportunities - if you live in the LA area and would like to be on our email list, drop a note to Catherine c/o the website (stwmacc@aol.com) and she'll make sure I get it. As I hope everybody knows, I always answer any email sent to me via Catherine, and while I'm a crummy about posting on this website I'm quite prompt with responses to particular correspondents - so don't be shy if you want to drop a line.

As always, I so appreciate your continued affection - possibly no-one reads these little notes anymore, cuz I write them so infrequently, but if you're one of the hardy few - thanks for giving a damn!

xox jb
